Decided to repost this in the new board, since I posted in it after we started moving.
Pardon me if this was posted elsewhere here (feel free to delete this if so Stew!) but during this past weekends SDCC DC Collectibles walkthru it was mentioned that with the success of the new BTAS figures (the initial crappy plastic not withstanding) those at DC could see this line lead to STAS and JLU. I've linked the video so those that are inclined can check it out.
Obviously its just one man at DC's simple aside, but it certainly brought a smile to my face and a "wouldn't THAT be awesome!" thought to my mind.
We can dream cant we? lol
I don't pick this line up and I honestly cant think of any JLU or STAS characters that I would even want in that size range, but if they can pull it off and do some neat stuff than right on, I just don't have a horse in this race at all.
Okay I take that back, if they make Barda I will without question buy her, but otherwise the price point on these guys is a backbreaker and I just cant go down that road and still be able to do other things like eating or buying silicone or stuff like that haha.
This is both a blessing & a curse. On one hand I love the BTAS/TNBA figures & have been buying them all. I would love to see STAS like Lois, Toyman, Darkseid, Steppenwolf, ect... in this scale. But I can barely afford to purchase all the Batman stuff at these price points. As much as I want to get it, I think I'm skipping the Batmobile. List is $100, but my local comic store said I could scoop it up for $80. That's still a lot of money though. I wish that I was making the money I was 5 years ago, I wouldn't even give it a second thought picking up everything.
As for JLU, no way. I will never buy the JLU figures in this size. As mentioned above the price & there's just too many that could be made. I've always been the completist type & buying all them at $20 a pop will get out of hand. Plus if the made all the terrible B,C, & D tier heroes & villians. I barely wanted to purchase them at $5 a pop in the mattel JLU line let alone $20.
So I say yes, I'll most likely try to figure out a way to purchase all the STAS figures. No I will not buy even one JLU because that's a slippery slope I don't want to go down.
I may get a few,but been there,done that,if you know what I mean.
I hear ya, guys,$24 a pop is tough to swallow. The way the BTAS stuff trickled out, thanks to the quality control issues, it was easier for me withstand the price. The rest of this year will be rough with how the rollouts are to be from August forward. On top of the heavy releases each month theres the Batmobile, that Clayface mentioned, thats right around the corner. What I choose not to pick up between now and the end of the year will certainly be on the ol Christmas List Santa will be getting.
As for possibly getting STAS or JLU down the line... I can see myself leaning toward cherry picking JLU, depending on how crazy they may get. I dont see it being a vast lineup we received with our "beloved" JLU from Matty, but rather the big 7, then your Aquaman, GA, Black Canary, those types of characters, and then some popular villains. Whomever that may be.
STAS I could see getting close to what the BTAS is getting and Id probably do my best to own whatever they produced. Alas Im a realist though, so as much as I MAY wannnnnt these things to come to pass, sadly I dont see either JLU or STAS happening. But that wont stop a small part of me from hopping the get made lol
Not sure about that theory. They seem to be going full blown with the BTAS/TNBA stuff. So why wouldn't they go nuts with STAS & JLU? As long as people are buying these ( I think they are pretty popular ) DCC said they will keep making them. Unlike mattel, DCC seems pretty excited to continue the Timmverse line.
Seem to be making some pretty obscure characters for the BTAS. I think they will do the same with JLU & STAS.
They did screw me over with the delay for the last 2 series. I was paying my local comic shop owner in advance when I had the spare cash & just patiently waiting. When they pushed back the series until Sept/Oct he refunded me the prepay since he doubted when they would actually be released. Of course that money was spent on other things more important. Now I'll have to just have a spare $160 come fall. Which probably isn't going to happen. I may have to pick & choose because I can't miss Batgirl or Baby Doll & Croc.
There are a few very specific figures I'd want out of a JLU DCC line... specifically, Batman, Joker, and Deadshot. I prefer the JLU designs for Batman and Joker, and I don't see Deadshot being a part of my Batman shelf any other way. Outside of that... I don't think I care.
See, Superman might be fun but I probably wouldn't buy them myself. That said, at least with Superman, that's a line where (like with Batman) I don't think the toyline lived up to the full potential of the property... I'd love to see proper STAS versions of Flash, Aquaman, and Green Lantern, for example. It's one of those lines that I like more in theory than I would in practice... I'd like it to EXIST, but I likely wouldn't buy anything from it.
JLU though... I'm not sure I like the idea at all. As I said above, I would totally buy some figures from it if they made the line, but the sheer wealth of character cameos in that series was insane. I neither need nor want to see that. Mattel, for all our complaining, already covered that series pretty well... a bit cheaper than some of us would have liked, but they covered it all the same. I wouldn't mind seeing the core 7, and maybe a villain or two... but nothing on the scale of the Batman line.
