From this...
To this...
Long Convoluted Story as short as possible, about 22 years ago when I just built Model kits (Starships, Tanks etc.) a buddy of mine handed me this Vinyl Kit of the Green Goblin and asked if I could build it for him. This was 12 years before I ever started Customizing so I took one look in the box, said "Holy S^%$" , closed the box...and never opened it again.
Since then we've moved up in our TV Careers, Gotten married, Moved, Etc. But I've always kept the box on a shelf and never dared open it.
After 10 years or so of Doing customs, using Putty, Rubber Bands, Card Stock to make Armor Etc. I got brave & said "You know, If I could learn how to Detail Wash I could actually BUILD that Green Goblin! That's the last thing I need to learn to do it!" So I watched YT Videos. learned Washing Techniques, and started.
Now, This wasn't actually a Model kit. It's what's called a "Garage Pour" of a Discontinued Model kit from the 1980's. None of the parts fit, there were HUGE Gaps in everything, the instructions were a PHOTOCOPY and there was like a Picture of the front of the original Box in with the parts basically saying "Good Luck Sucker"
I had to use Gorilla Glue to hold him together as the parts were big and heavy so I needed a quick set,
Then I discovered all the huge gaps. Fortunately I'm good with putty nowadays, I even had to build the entire back of his head as the Stocking cap didn't fit. I tell you this guys Garage Pour was nowhere near Stew's level at all, You guys have no Idea how lucky we are to get figures & parts from him.
THIS is all the crap I had to shave off the parts:
This is the back of the head I had to build:
Various gaps:
Oh yeah had to build all his Knuckles too:
Once he was base coated, he didn't look bad, I build the missing Straps for his Bag of Tricks out of Rubber Bands :
Painting went Pretty Normally, Green & Purple each took two coats. The Pumpkin went VERY well, I did the eyes & Mouth with a paint Pen.
The Goblin Glider was probably the easiest Part, Took some Sanding though:
Then it became time for the detail wash, I was scared...no lie...I'd never done it before but the videos I watched were pretty clear on the formulas & instructions:
1 Drop of paint
15 drops of water
15 Drops of Rubbing Alcohol (The Alcohol is critical, it eliminates the surface tension of the water and allows the paint to get down into the cracks)
so away we went:
Basically get the Bush just a little Damp with the mix, brush it on, take a paper towel & wipe the excess. Done. Not bad for a first attempt
Then I gave it to the guy who 22 years ago asked me to build it for him LOL. Fun part was telling him what a Nightmare it was
Terrible kit, But like I said it was a Knock off of a kit that we'd have no access to had the guy not tried to make molds of his. So can't fault him but you better be a experienced not just Builder...but a Customizer like the People on this Board if you ever think about getting a Garage kit. I'm sure glad I've picked up so many tips and Advice from all of you guys over the years or this never would have happened.
Cheers.
