I made a BabyDoll years ago. She wasn't designed for molding & the body wasn't really perfect with her cartoon counterpart. So I decided to remake her with molding in mind. My head sculpt was pretty much on point from my original so I stuck with the same design for the head. The body is completely different from my original. Here is the WIP pic.
I never painted her or put her together because I was hoping someone would cast this. Well that didn't happen. You know what they say, if you want something done, you have to do it yourself.
About a month ago I ordered the silicone & everything I needed to get into that venture. It's easier said then done learning to mold/cast. After many tries & a lot of wasted product, I did manage to get some good molds including all of my Babydoll's parts.
I figured that I needed to assemble & paint one up just to see how she looks.

Let me know what you all think?

Looks good so far man. I would just say, keep in mind that the smoother your pieces are that you are casting, the longer the molds will last.
Basically if you have defects in the sculpts like sharp edges or lumps or other things, they can create problems where the molds will wear out faster or develop holes, so you wanna pay attention to little hooks and other things sticking out to make sure your piece being molded is as smooth as possible to help maintain the molds for a longer period of time.
Cool stuff man. Keep going and you'll be a pro like Stew and I soon
You mean I may have to make these molds again? ???I barely got them right the first time.....errr.....3 times.
Are you are talking about the rough part on the back of her head on the unpainted sample? That's the pour spout that I cut off & fix with apoxie. She's a pretty smooth piece all around. But there are other things like Razer's head that has those horns. Every time I cast him, it seems the horns never come out & I have to fix them with apoxie anyway. So at least I'm not going to wear out that mold.....lol

I was just speaking in general because the tip of her hair on the one pigtail looked like it was kinda rough and it was just a random thought that crossed my mind about little things like that shortening the life of the molds potentially.
Dude, if you only did it 3 times, you're off to a good start haha. I think I was averaging around 5 per at the beginning
Oh on the Razer thing, just when you pour the resin, squeeze the mold a bit to force the air out. That should help clear that up.
Oh the tips of the hair are basically not in the mold. The tips of the hair are always sloppy that have to be ground down because that is the pour hole.
As for Razer, those " horns " are so long & thin it seems like nothing I do will fill them in with resin. I tried squeezing the mold, opening it up when I pour, gravity pours, nothing fills those horns in. I just give up & sculpt them when I'm done with the cast. At least it's easier than sculpting the entire head again.
Commission piece. Was happy to make an obscure character from one of my favorite JLU episodes " For the Man Who Has Everything "
Joe Chill is the thug in the episode that killed Bruce Wayne's parents in a flashback scene when Batman had the Black Mercy attached to him. Great episode based on the book written by one of my favorite comic writers, Alan Moore.
Since the flashback scene wasn't in color, I took some liberties with what I thought his outfit would be.
Thanx guys! But I really can't take all the credit on this one. A client really wanted this character or I would have never thought of making him. The idea on how to make him was all my design though
For awhile I was full blown on this site, making new customs every week. That all came to a screeching hault a few months back. Some of you know, but most of you don't. I've kind of been disgusted & depressed about things, so I just haven't made an attempt to do anything. And I didn't really want to even talk about it.
A few months ago, I was involved in a very bad car accident. Here's what's left of my vehicle.
The motor is pushed back about a foot.
So I'm driving a long on a four way, one way highway, I come around the turn of the overpass & see headlights coming at me. My mind raced & what was seconds felt like hours. Trying to think of what to do while my life is flashing before me. There was a car next to me in the right lane, so I couldn't get over. I just thought to lock up the brakes & hope he does the same. Praying that we don't collide. Well that obviously didn't work out to well. All I remember is getting hit in the face with an airbag & waking up a few minutes later.
The guy that hit me was not drunk, he just made a simple mistake & got on the wrong way, didn't realize it until he seen all the headlights coming at him. When the Paramedics & Fire dept arrived, they said if I was in a smaller car, I probably wouldn't be talking to them right now.
I was pretty busted up & have been going through a lot in my life because of this right now. I had a concussion, busted ribs, along with being completely sore everywhere. But the worst of it all is the constant pain in my left arm & no feeling in my fingers at all.
So my two main hobbies that I love are BMX & making custom toy. Neither of which I have been able to do for months. Imagine trying to hold onto the handlebars of a bike doing a backflip when you can't feel your fingers? I drop glasses & stuff all the time. I use my fingers a lot to sculpt instead of any tools. I've tried to do it & can't really feel the pressure I am putting. So I just end up smashing what I made. So needless to say I was pretty disgusted/depressed & haven't wanted to work on anything at all. I've had stuff sitting around, almost complete or just needing paint that I haven't touched because I just really didn't want to be reminded of what I used to be able to do.
So I've been to many doctor's & they are trying to help me. But it's a slow process with MRI's & nerve damage, & things like that.
So I kind of realized to quit feeling sorry about what happened & I just need to overcome this by myself. As of right now & am training myself to work on things with the many sculpting tools that I have. But I still have so much stuff that I just needed to paint or add some minor sculpting too that I can pull off.
Roxy Rocket was done.....
I just needed to figure out her glass on her googles & paint her.
I have so many kits from Stew & others that I just needed to paint......
Then I started to feel like myself again. My will to push myself & see what I can do came back.
I started working on these 2 awhile ago & pushed them to the side due to the complicated sculpts. They both were almost done, I just didn't think the likeness was quite right. So it became a go big or go home thing for me. Why not finish somethings that I didn't feel I could pull off at all.
I made a Tygrus years ago. Amazing how I thought that figure looked good back then? So after I finished the Dr, I definitely had to finish a Tygrus to be screen accurate because the old one was really not that good. ( It's on the Wiki )
It's still a long road & trying to figure out how to get rid of pain & numbness. Been working with the dental tools more & it's a totally different feel. But I'm not going to let this get me down anymore. I will overcome this bullsh*t one way or another!

Wow! I'm really sorry to hear about all that, CF. But seriously, congrats on rolling up your sleeves and diving back into something you love. I know that's not easy, but these newly finished projects are all incredible!
You've gotta share your recipe for Dr. Emil Dorian! He's one of the few lingering BTAS villains I have not customized, and it would be pretty hard to top what you did! Your Tygrus sculpt it spot on too! Fantastic batch of figures!
